Someone mentioned seeing a Bolens with "Strange " Decals on it a few days ago.

After scouring the internet I managed to find it and posted the pictures on this site.

The Decals on this machine are indeed original

The 50'th Anniversary was to celebrate 50 years of the Howard Rotavator Co. Selling the Bolens line in the UK

It was coined "The Golden Year"

Yeah, I saw that over on 'the other forum'.

The guy that owns it is in Australia.

That being the case, unless someone sent it from the UK to OZ, I don't think that it has anything to do with "50 years in the UK".

That would be something that the guys at the guys on the VHGMC forum over in the UK could answer though.

I used to post there when I was looking for info on the HDT1000, but they have changed their web site, and now you have to be a member to post.

There is a 30 day 'guest' option, so maybe someone can ask them.

Howard Rotavator Co was also sold in Australia and so was bolens all the way back to the early 50s.

I like the looks of that one! What would be the equivalent over here?

Maybe so, but until we can actually pin it down to the UK specifically, I'm going with the "50 years in OZ" theory.

This is the only one we've seen, and it is in OZ.  Seeing some from the UK would certainly help clear things up.

I would think that Howard would have put their name on it, as they certainly weren't shy about doing that with other Bolens models, as this pic shows:

It appears to be a QT17.

Going by what I have seen in Dealer only Brochures I think this was a "World Wide" celebration for the entire Bolens Market in the US,Canada and across the pond.

This is only speculation but I would not be surprised if decal kits were available for all parts of the country where Dealers could buy or request the Anniversary Decals, Kind of like when they did their "Spirit of 76' "

A US made brochure has the 50th Anniversary Seal on it but the inside shows all American print and Decals on those tractors.

The "Bolens Lawn Machines" full line brochure (copyright 1980)that I have shows the same style medallion on the gold colored cover with what appears to be a QT17 in the center

Hi
I'm new here and keen to find out more about this tractor.
Below is a link to an article on Howard History. I can't recall seeing any Howard/Bolens branded tractors in Australia. Maybe Howard had them sent here straight from America. I haven't been able to dig up any more information on the 50th Anniversary from the American Bolens guys. Dr Bolens idea that decal kits were made available to dealers makes sense. If I can find another hood for the tractor I think it might be worthwhile putting this one into storage as I am intending to use the tractor.
