Looking over manuals I draw a conclusion that this is a modified QS-16 ...

MODEL 1660 (QS-16).

BOLENS
TRACTOR
with
16 HP
KOHLER
ENGINE

The motor is a swap out (should be KOHLER ENGINE ASSEMBLY (K341AQS) ) and side stack is a modify, too.

Front grils replaced and headlights added.

Seat is not original.

But, if all is working why worry? Looks cool as it is.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi,

The seat has been changed to a regular tractor seat, but the grille as the original. The front end has been modified for the rectangular headlights, but i thing this was only done because the poor parts market here in DK for these tractors.

Also the muffler has been modified. The original muffler would be under the hood and the "exit" would be out out in front (i think)

Wait a moment. I just was on another forum the other day and was with a person from OZ. He has a QT17 and with some help we found it was distributed as a Howard's Bolens as an import. What was different on his was the decals and one other thing I can't remember.

So, with you in Denmark, I still say it's a QS16 but the seat and color may be of your "back then" dealer's choosing. All else is mod for sure.

Yes it could be so, but if i search Bolens QT on eBay, every single result matches my tractor. Brakes, steering, dash etc. So maybe it is a modified QT17. They were also fittet with Kohler KT, werent they?

Oh man oh man am i glad i "popped" the question here :o)

I thought that the engine was a swap, but was not sure. I can see that the holes in the frame for the engine has been modified.

Another thing is that both throttle and choke are working backwards acc. to the letters and figures on the dash.

The cables are an easy fix, I think you have the ones that work backwards or the wrong direction when they are mounted

The paint on the frame and dash tower leads to a qs qt16 with the black as the qt17 was a green frame and dash. Another way to tell is the hydro pump. The qs and qt16 usead a sunstrand pump and the qt17 used a eaton 11 pump.

Thats what I was figuring with the paint and color of the knobs/Grips but dont deal with these enough to know for sure if I was right.

The whole tractor has been repainted. Also the frame. It used to be black i can see. Some of the grey paint chipped off where the hood touches the frame for the dash.

Yeah, check the hydro pump. That'll help you narrow it down.

Yes but the dash decal is black and that would have matched the frame as the qt17 dash decal would have been green to match the frame.

Hi,

Ok, that narrows it to either a QS16 or a QT16 for sure. Both have many interchangable parts from the manuals I see.

Unless you can find the Model/Serial No. tag it's all in isolating it down by unique parts, which are few at this point.
