Clutch Problems On My 850

Hi gang,

 

I started digging into my 850 I acquired several months back to see what I can find out of why the clutch doesn't work.
So far all parts seem to be there according to the parts diagram. Now, I read on how to adjust. Here is where my confusion comes in.

"CLUTCH ASSEMBLY (3-SPEED TRANSMISSION)

CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT
With the clutch pedal depressed
half-way the clutch should release.
To adjust, first adjust the clutch
pedal to an angle of approximately
60° when the clutch is engaged.
Then adjust nut "C" until there
is approximately 1/16 inch clearance
between the clutch flange
and the clutch facing when the
clutch pedal is depressed half-way."

How do you set the clutch angle to 60* before moving nut "C"?

This is kind of tough to explain without actually being there.....

What problems are you having with the clutch?

The rear brake or the clutch it self? or Both?

The clutch doesn't disengage. The pedal is no where near being a 60* angle as they call for.

If the clutch wont open enough you need to play with the rod (Top row picture 3)

Back one end off and tighten the other side and see if that helps

 

And then there is also an adjustment under the machine:

I forgot which way tightens (Raises) the petal, so you'll have to experiment unless somone knows off the top of their head :D

I believe you have found the missing link that I wasn't understanding. I'll get back to it in the morning and let you know. Thanks for all of your help.

Since there has been nothing but bad weather from back in January until now I finally back into the 850 and here is what I found so far.

Now you can see what I see.

 

I found a friend that can weld and reshape the openings to original and should be back tomorrow with them.

Wow!

 

I've never seen the yokes worn that much.  ....Usually they would only wear on one side of the slot, so switching them from top to bottom would usually do the trick.

Yes, Bruce. I am thinking the previous owner(s) switched them around when someone put in a new clutch kit.

 

I now have back my yoke pieces and I must say they "lookin' goooooood".

My friend said he filled it in and then retapped the slot opening using a 5/16".

I think the pic below shows a shadow line of how much fill he did to make a strong weld before boring the slot.

Okay, stupid question coming on because I didn't pay attention.

 

The spacer that is in between the yokes does it set so the assembly capscrew goes through it or is it set sideways for the clutch adjusting rod to go through? It's Item 171 in the Parts manual. Part # 1714665.

It sits inline with the hole to allow the cap screw to go through, it is not for the adjusting rod.
