The Western Tag makes me wonder? Western Tool & Stamping Company was in Des Moines, Iowa and built a lot of mowers in the 50's.
I am not sure but suspect they later became AMF? I wonder if this was an early Experimental machine? made before they started building the AMF Dynamark, Massey and anyone else's machine that was willing to buy a Short run and put their label on it? I might add used to be Dynamark machines were the most common seen in this area.
When I worked at Farmhand you would be amazed at the bizzare machines that came out of the Experimental Engineering Shop that never made it to production line. I had a front row seat working maintenence and sharing the same shop.with engineering.

There is a tractor that looks somewhat similar to this one in the current issue of Lawn & Garden Tractor magazine. According to the article, it was Crosley-built. Not saying this one is too, but it's the closest thing I've seen that resembles the style.
