I think I told you to check that valve for a screw in there. Though you had all 3 screws in the air cover the previous owner may have replaced one of them and the one that was lost you just found

If its an Onan, is it possible the coil went?. It was my understanding that you could lose half a coil on those.
Another thought is points and/or condenser... Hopefully an Onan guy comes along.

I did have a coil on a kohler kt19 that lost half of it's gusto, this may be a possibility! Better than a 2 piece rod like mine did this winter!
