As some of you know, my wife and I have raised one of our granddaughters since she was about 3 months old. From her first day in school we could tell she was going to be exceptional and we knew she would be college bound. Well she is a senior in high school this year and college is just around the corner. She wants to go into Environmental engineering and had plan to go to GA Tech, but she applied to several other schools and at each she has been accepted (we are still waiting on Tech). Anyway she applied to Mercer University and was accepted. She was also invited to participate in the presidential scholarships. A few weeks ago we went down with her and she had 3 interviews for 3 different scholarships. As I listened to the keynote address and then went to the class rooms and meet with the faculty I knew this was the place for her and also it lit a spark in her as well. Mercer emphasis service and making a difference in peoples lives Well one of those scholarship is the Tiff award for women entering the engineering field and only one is give each year. It is a complete full ride scholarship for 5 years. She could conceivably graduate with not only a bachelors degree but a masters. In there senior year if they have the GPA and have enough credits they can take graduate course and then finish there masters the next year.
Our Granddaughter received a call today telling her she won the Tiff Scholarship this year!!! Never in our dreams did we think she would win this one, just do to the number of applicant's much less the completion. I am so proud of her! Plus this takes a tremendous burden off us to figure out how we were going to pay because Mercer is much more expensive then a state school.
Thanks for taking the time to share this with me.
