We're having a public auction today of Mom's houshold stuff, hope it's not too slick out!  Sale starts a 10 this morning, at the "Rock Barn" in Trenton, MO, facility is heated!  Wife & I have worked most weekday mornings for two months (with little help from my brother) getting things boxed up to be hauled to the sale site!  I hired the hauling done.  General household items, lots of needlework (supplies, patterns, finished & unfinished project, etc. & a few stone jars (crocks), one of which is an 8 gallon "Red Wing" without a mark on it!  Auctioneer has had two calls from Omaha & one from Iowa about the 8 gallon!

Wish me luck!  ~~  Lowell

Lowell, I hope the sale goes well. It sounds like a lot of work getting ready and that would not be an easy task for you.

Red Wing crocks go for crazy money up here, I hope the bidding for it goes well Lowell.

Hopefully, this well:

An 8 gallon Red Wing blue-banded pantry jar was the top item in this year’s Red Wing Collectors Society (RWCS) Convention Auction on July 11. Thanks to its good condition and the fact that the 8 gallon size is quite hard to find, it drew an impressive $4,200 gavel price.

I helped a friend and his family out one winter clearing his great uncle's farm place. Tons of antique tractors and farm machinery. Load after load of scrap metal, too. We cleared the pasture of snow once we had everything inventoried, and started lining stuff up. If I remember right, the cars, trucks, and tractors (no gt's) took up about 3 acres spaced out 10 feet apart with the rows being 35 or 40 feet apart. Lots of iron.

Anywho, someone was adventurous once the barn got cleared out, and removed the screws and nails holding the access door to the barn loft shut. Tons of bird droppings, mouse droppings and lots of loose hay. Or so they thought. Row of crocks, boards on top, then another row, completely covered in straw. Some of them were the huge ones, the 30-50 gallon silos. I think there was 5 or 6 of the large water jug types. I know there was a 20 or 25 gallon one with a lid that was perfect. I can't remember the exact amount of crocks that went on the auction. It was a 2 or 3 day auction, the crocks were sold on Sunday if I remember correctly. I know all the crocks (total) ended up bringing in over $50,000.

Me and my ex had an impressive collection of crocks. We had our dinning room full over 200 of them. From beginner collector ones to large and small rare ones. Probably 15 worth.

I gave it to her in the divorce to keep her mouth shut. I love crocks.

All over!

All in all, a sucsessful day, we came out $770 ahead, thanks to the $890 8 gallon stone jar!  We knew we didn't have a high dollar auction, weather could have been better, but could have been worse.  At least the stuff is gone!  Now to get the house cleaned up to turn back to the land lady by the first of the year!  ~~  Lowell
