It was announced this afternoon that NASCAR has bought Iowa Speedway.

This should be a real shot in the arm for local economy. Probably more hotels and resturants will have to be built.

I still expect it to be a few years before there is a Nextel event? But can hardly wait to see Tony Stewart race in my hometown!!

Wow!  That is a big deal for this part of the country!  I might be able to afford a race in Newton.

Yes Travis you should make it out to a race! It is the most awesome Track I have ever seen. Being 7/8th mile and sitting below the stands you can see the whole track and cars from any seat.  I always thought it would go being within 300 miles of Chicago. St Louis, Minneapolis and Kansas City and Fans will travel.

It seats 30,000 at this time. Nascar has been saying for several years the track would need to seat 50,000 before they would consider a Nextel Race. So now maybe they will install the seating?

Nice!  Another reason for Dad to come visit us in CR.  Never been to a smaller track but Dad has been to several.

If nothing else, it usually gets the road ways upgraded. Kentucky speedway took almost 10 yrs before the got a Sprint race. They added a ton of seats, their min was like 70K. I71 got upgraded and widen within few miles of the track.

Hopefully it will help your area out.

Nascar has been doing Nationwide and Trucks there for years I dont think you will ever see a cup race there just because I dont see them adding any more racetracks under 1 mile.

Yes Wilber it is questionable on the cup event. Richmond is one of the most popular cup events. Rusty Wallace was a design consultant and Richmond was one of his favorite tracks. This track was designed using Richmond as a model. It is very wide and has progressive banking giving several lines and allowing passing anywhere on the track.
I have seen Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano overtaking slower cars shoot the gap running 3 wide going into turn 1. That was in the first K&N Pro race ran here.

It is a fast track, the Indy cars are turning in 190mph laps. The cup cars would put on a good show on this track

It will be great until the races start.  Then the locals have to deal with tons of traffic, and increased prices on everything.
