I recently bought a B-80, and It needs a new piston and rings. The engine model is k181s? is there a difference between the k181 and the k181s? I could not see any...

This thing runs perfectly carb wise, but it smokes like a freight train... BUT, it idles and full throttles perfectly, no spitting or sputtering.

What all should I do when i semi-rebuild this? i was thinking piston and rings, but what else should i do?

Try some Marvel mystery oil or seafoam to try and get the rings freed back up..  (tranny oil has been with success by many folks as well)  Once the rings are loose the oil blowage should reduce or even go away..

Good Luck!

I sold this tractor to him, I put MMO in plug hole and in gas, didn't help much. It had sat for 6-7 yrs though before I got it so I was thinking the same thing.

Rally said he pulled head, looks like piston is out of round and has a chip on edge for some reason. Too bad too cause it fires right up and ran great, but like he said, smoked like a coal burner.

Would've been good in the summer though, great mosquito fogger.

Yes, for example, a K321AQS is a 14hp with A=special oil pan, Q=Quietline series, and the S=Electric Start

I would consider running it .010 oversize.  Either way, if the piston is indeed out of round, you need to check the cylinder before you dump in pistons and rings.

I would take the time to check the engine.  Check the rod and crank.  Replace seals and gaskets.  Kohlers were (and still are) the best, take some time now, and it will be right for the rest of your time with the tractor.

I can get you the parts if you want to re do it, OEM, NOS, or aftermarket.

Ben W.
