I have the Waterloo Model 15 torn apart for painting.  The transaxle has one (1) oil seal in it.  Not sure why, but it does.  Anyway, it is shot & needs to be replaced.  It is the older felt style which seam to be NLA.

The problem is that the axle has a factory cut notch for the oil seal to ride in.  The axle is 1" OD, and the groove is about .975" OD.

The question is: should I go with an oil seal that has a 1" ID (SKF 9843) and hope it doesn't leak (or install with a speadi-sleeve), or one that is .984" ID (SKF 9686) and hope it doesn't tear going on?

There are plastic sleeves to use for installing the seal. Try to find one of the correct size. Good Luck. Rick

I'd say you are probably going to have to use a speedi-sleeve. I'd almost think the shaft is wore there. Doesn't make much sense to cut that recess for a seal to ride in. The .984 is still going to be .009 too big. Would there be a possibility that the new seal could be put in farther out to ride on a differrent part of the shaft and get by with the 1 in.?
