Will, that looks like fun. Fun building it and using it.  We have a lot of white pine where I live and whenever any of them get cut down the home owners association tries to get the boles donated. We save up a few of them and then hire a bandsaw mill to cut them into planks which we use to make walkways over the wet spots in our nature trails. It's done in a similar way to what you've done with the bridge but in shorter spans and lower to the ground. We keep the width to 3 ft to keep ATV's off of the walking trails.

Brian, that sounds neat do you have any pic's?

That looks good and what a beautiful piece of land!  How do you ever convince yourself to go inside?

Generally I go inside when it gets dark. But when there's lots of snow, and the trails need grooming

I do that at night. And that's not because it's the last thing on the list.

You did a nice job on the bridge. There appeared to be a center pier, was that permantent? If not, I would put one in with splayed legs. The pier would greatly increase the strength and stiffness of the bridge. The splayed legs would prevent sway.

As an Army Engineer and a Town Engineer, I have built alot of bridges. The lack of railing makes me nervous but I realize that the bridge is for your private use and that Canadian laws are different. That being said, please put up a rail for your safety. I hope that you have many happy years of use of your bridge. Good Luck, Rick

Railings are in the plans. That's why there are several longer planks.

I can gusset the rail posts that way. Hopefully on Saturday I'll do that.

Actually, they'll be low, like guardrails, to stop GTs from getting broken.

There are 4 adjustable boat stands under it to stop sway, and bounce. It's

plenty stiff enough. I might have forgot to put that picture in.

I got the off ramp done yesterday, and did a bit of leveling

of the trail to be.

Yes, should last a while. The maple beams should have been

debarked, to make it last longer, but I wasn't up to that, and

I tried to get my daughter to pitch in, but that was not to be.

It'll serve it's purpose. My GT rides for the next .......years.

Is there anything you can put on the boards to keep the critters and water from making them less than structurally sound?

Looks like that will last for a while! Wish I were closer. I'd take the FF up there!

Will, that is a great job.  I am very impressed.  Nice job with the off ramp.  I'm sure you will have lots of fun with the bridge.

I milled up the guard rail material yesterday, and moved it to site, and

covered before the wet snow started. My plan is to get all the tools

loaded up in the ATV trailer, and get back there this morning to build

the rail. We'll see how that goes. Mother nature isn't being nice today.

The snow has stopped, but now the cold north wind has picked up.

I'll give it a good effort. Gotta get climatized to that -10 stuff sooner or later.

Might take my little propane burner along so I can make Cup-O-Soup.

Know any power company lineman? If you do, ask them for a couple (or four)  of pole wrap patches. Tar based 16" square adhesive patches to seal up the wood. I'd mail 4 up, but I think it would be worse than shipping cocaine if they inspected it.

Yes, I do know a lineman. So, I'd wrap the ends?

That's not going to happen at the top anymore, but come spring I could

try and lift the base and wrap the log butts.

Don't mail any cocaine. Rob Ford would intercept it. :rolling:
