I've been thinking of getting a stock muffler for the 1886 forklift, and have been keeping an eye out for them on eBay.
 
There were two listed recently, so I had them on my watch list. I didn't plan on bidding on them until the last day of the auction. I didn't bother.
 
Both auctions are ended now, and what did they sell for?
 
First one went for $301.50 and the other for $482.77.  :loosing_it:
 
I've spent less for complete, running tractors!

Guess I'll have to look for an alternative that is close to the same size.

a 350cu.in. small block Chevy engine on Ebay would be listed as "rare"   :(

Amazeing what some of this stuff goes for sometimes I have been guilty of paying to much sometimes but not many

Lol Dad and I make them and they look factory or we put a ford 9n muffler on them just cut them down.

How much you think I can get I go a 4 bolt and 2 bolt. :D We got a junk one that was in the racecar to bet I can get one of a kind price for it. :D

I've got a nice balanced 350 +.030". Runs great. Maybe more Gt funds?

Your custom muffler on the 1886 is a very close replacement for stock. Very nice job!

Did you make the heat shield by milling out the holes, or did you buy the material like that and just fab the shield from perforated metal?

Yeah Jerome, one of those rascals would look real nice on the refurbed forklift (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).

 

Not to mention one on the HDT1000 as well :D :D :D

The shield if from a 18 wheeler muffler we rolled and cut it to fit around a ford 9n muffler.   I have a place that can cut a sheet out with a lazer I would just have to have it plated after its made into shape.

You could always go stainless - I did mine for wayyyyyy less than a worn out used one. It's stainless all the way to the manifold.. should last a LOOOOOONG time. I polished it after these pictures - but it needs polished again.

I don't have any pictures of it when it was clean and polished out... so this is the best I have to show. It'll should polish back out to a near mirror shine, as I sanded and polished it after the initial fitment.

 

Here is what it currently looks like.

I'm hoping to repaint the hood, finish the fenders, install bearing buddies, repaint the wheels and touch up some spots on the green paint (depends on how well I can heat the garage this winter.. and if I don't get to many other projects in the way).
