Would like to see that one. I've only seen  one in person. Does yours have the box on the back? Good Luck. Roger.

It seems like everyone was producing snowmobiles in the 70's (Massey Ferguson, John Deere, Bolens, Sears etc.) that Cat started selling lawn tractors and mini bikes.

Not many of those around. During that period there was a lot of growth in the market for power equipment and the snowmobile and AG companies experimented with trying to jump into the market with varying levels of success.

Is that something they built, or sourced?

It must be from the 70's. It's got a cigarette lighter.

hey,

I'm so thankful to find some people who have heard about these, I will be buying one this spring. The came out in the early 70's, most of them were purple with the green decals. They had different models such as rear engined rider, several lawn tractors, and push mowers. many of these tractors cam with a Wankel rotary motors, but some came with normal engines(this depends on the model. The "first series" had quite a few accessories such as a lawn sweeper, snow blower, lawn cart, snow plow, and a grass catcher. The "second series" had silver or gold paint with green decals and had two rectangular headlights instead of round.

Artic Enterprises also made a lawn tractor called the Lawn Lion which was based off the Grasscats. the lawn lion tractor had a yellow-ish color.

Does yours still have the original motor and can you find a model number on it?

Here's a good source for info on the Grass Cats.

http://www.bosscatle...protonstrac.htm

Is that something they built, or sourced?

I've seen these branded at least four different things so far so I assumed Arctic Cat didn't build them.  There was some info on another website that said as much but reading some of the ads on that site I posted above, they sure claim to build them themselves.

There's a Lawn Lion for sale near me that I inquired about just because I love the name and I think that model looks good.  http://york.craigsli...4196928578.html

Ad reads "good condition" but it's missing the transmission.

Looking at pictures of yours I'm going to say yours was made in 1972. Artic Enterprise bought a manufacturing company in 1971 in Omaha Nebraska called General Leisure and changed the name to Arctco. A subsidiary of Arctic Enterprise. This is where they made the Grass Cat lawn mower the arctic cat mini bike and the Kitty Kat snowmobile. They only made lawn mowers in 1972,1973 and 1974. I can't find any information on what happened to the factory after that. I think they also made the Lawn Lion and sold it under the General Leisure name. I'm also coming up with the possibility of them having made lawnmowers under the name of Chaparral and Bonanza. There may have been some other names on the lawn mowers.

  • Canawler, sacsr and Oldford have said thanks
