How hard is it to work on a power king transmission. Its a 2414. Its the rear one. Don't know for sure what's wrong with it. Just bought it and haven't had time to get it home. Just curious if it might be anything in particular. The handle just kinda moves around with no real resistance. Might the end of the gear shift be broken, or is there a pin of some sort? Im just guessing. Never had one apart before.

Sounds like it has to be just the end of the shift shaft broken off to me.

I don't know if this is your problem but here's a thread on repairing the shifter button when it's worn. If nothing else it will give you a good look at the shifter mechanism.

Not a big deal to take the 4 bolts out of the top of the transmission, then lift the top off and you will know whats wrong.  Drain the oil out and make sure there are no broken pieces inside.

Trans open easy. Getting the tin tunnel off is PIA part. In order to remove will be taking off front tin and moving engine forward enough to have shaft slip out of all the couplings to give room to work. In Most cases the tranny's are STUCK in a gear from worn end on shifter, NOT loose. Maybe someone had that problem and used mega-force to move and broke it. Does tractor roll now? If not, probly jammed into two gears at once. Pushing clutch won't help it to roll if in trans. I leave the tunnel tin off and put down a platform for feet to set on. Check out my other postings for a look at that. You DO loose mount for tank and battery tho and have to make places for them somewhere else. Others have cut the top right off the tin and made a "door" over trans. That works, but looks bad. Did see one for sale that guy went entire length of the tunnel with a separate lid made from orig top and quick clamps like a toolbox to hold on that really looked pretty good. He had to make frame for holding sides in place tho. He then had metal strap welded to top of the sides and the top edges set over the strap, just like a toolbox. Was pretty cool.  Sorry about book. Get one of those thumbdrives that Larry Goss offers for $10, tons of info on PK's.  He has add in LAGT mag or is on here in someone's post if you search.
