Tonight I decided to kick on my oil furnace and take the chill off awhile my wood burner was heating up.

it started making this god awful clanging coming from the pump and draft blower.

my wife tells me to leave it alone and call the repair guy. What does a repair guy know that I dont? Ok maybe a lot.

so I started taking stuff apart and looking. I found an electrode that went from the transformer to the igniter was broken off and had fell down into the squirrel cage. A drill bit, pair of needle nose pliers and a socket and it was firing away.

women have no faith! She looked at me and asked how did I know how to fix it

My response. Men know everything we just act dumb sometimes so we dont make women look bad. She rolled her eyes at me.

But,(and this is a big but) women are genetically incapable of admitting to being wrong. When she says leave it alone and you fix it- her mind goes bonkers. That's when you see the eye roll.

Sooo.....If you have parts falling off your furnace, when do you plan to replace them?  As someone who has done HVAC work, any flaming heating device that isn't in perfect working order makes me REALLY nervous!!

it was a contact tip. The brass piece presses against the transformer and it was 12" long it really only needs to be half that. Furnace is a 1982 model it has many hours on it and was checked by a tech last month. It works fine. If I felt it was unsafe I wouldnt of fixed it.

my wife is unique person. She lets me get away with a lot. She will get me back. Thats why I love her.

I have had to go out on the coldest of winter nights for a service call to replace a "Bussbar" on a oil furnace nozzel assembly. Hopefully it will run good for you now the rest of the cold season. Glad she lets you slide a bit! Roger.

I'm with ya!  Mine told me we were going to start refinishing the floors this weekend.. or should I say..she said " What do you think about refinishing the floors? I said " Yes dear" thinking I had a little time. Came home from work and the ceilings were painted! I said " I thought we were doing the floors?. She said...." I wanted to paint before you refinished the floors...by this weekend"!
