Just called ICU.  Dad's BP improved after we left & he is now sedated & resting.     Sometimes being there isn't the best medicine.  It will likely be late morning or later before they can remove the ventilator.  They asked we keep visits to a minimum till the tube is out.  He wants to say something when we're there, and the frustration of not being able to gets him upset.  Once the ventilator is out, I'll take Mom up to see him.  Those that have met Dad knows how he likes to talk.

Its best you both get rested. He needs to get stronger and heal and you need to be rested to be there for him.

Doctors know what they are doing.

I know exactly the feeling you are describing with the breathing tube.

Prayers from Illinois for a speedy recovery. Be strong Daniel, you have a lot of prayer power here for your Dad, you and the rest of your family. God is good and your Dad will do great.

Take good care of yourself and your Mom.

Geno

Got an update this morning.  Dad did fairly well last night, and now they encourage "short" visits.  They said by noon they would have him looking better and ready for us to drop in.  Maybe the ventilator tube will be out, and that alone will raise his spirits.  He was having some pain when I called, so they were going to give him more of the good stuff.  Got 2 sick cows to tend to, then I'll take Mom up to see him.

Just got back from visiting with Dad.  He is MUCH better today! :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:

They took the breathing tube out just before we arrived, and boy was he (and we) glad.  His speech was very light, but by the time we needed to leave, it was pretty easy to understand him.  He was happy to see us all.  Swelling has mostly left his face being they could raise the head of the bed.  Hands still puffy from all the fluids going into him.  Still have 6 IV bags hooked up, but one is pain meds which isn't flowing except when he's due, or needs more.  First one he looked for was Mom, she was behind me.  When he saw her, he said "There she is!"  I heard him plain.  He reached out for her hand.  They held hands the entire visit.

They said they'd work his legs around in the bed by end of day, then possibly get him on his feet tomorrow.  Sure was a wonderful sight seeing him in better shape.  He even managed a weak smile.  Hard for him to smile, as his lips are dry as a bone.  Nothing by mouth yet.

I'll take Mom every day that she's up to it.  Once he's out of ICU and in a normal room, some of us will likely camp out with him some.  Right now this room is pretty tight.
