Hi guys new here on forum but not to garden tractors. I just got a cub cadet 1512 and everythings good but when I run it for sometime and get it warm, when I try to start it back up it j7st turns over real slow. Let it sit for 20 mins or jump it and it fires right up. Brand new battery .has updated ground, glow plugs and battety. Its almost as the alternator not charging or something. The amp meter never goes to charge side. Thanx so much

If the amp meter never goes to charge side then you have a charging issue. I assume the meter is working and is registering a discharge when the tractor is running and indicates a higher discharge when you turn on the headlights.

Yes it discharges while running just a hair and really starts going down if you put mower deck on or lights.

First thing is to check wires for breaks and shorts. Once all are checked, check all connections by taking them apart, cleaning and reassembling. If it still doen't charge you will need to download the manual from here(its free) and do the testing. Good Luck, Rick

Disconnect and charge the battery to prevent damage to it.

Just curious, what is the CCA of this new battery?  We have an old Massey Super 90, a diesel farm tractor, and it does the same thing.  It is the starter itself in our case, and our alternator is working fine.  When the starter gets good & warm from the engine heat, it's windings lose power.  Likely lamination on the wires breaking down.  May not be your case, but it is with ours.  Jumping ours helps also, even though our battery is fine.

Well put the gear reduction starter and all is great but after I work the tractor it gets hard to start. It puffs black smoke and if I let it sit about 10 min it will start right back up. Its driving me nuts!!! Please help :)

Hi,

What if you try the glow plugs when it in this "won't fire" stage?

I've had a couple of 1512's and imo the lack of a full size battery or a place to put it is a huge negative.

Chuck
