Like the title says, I have to build a new dog house.  The one I have is not big enough for the 2 dogs I have.  And they don't like to share very well, or at least Molly doesn't.  She weighs in at around 60 pounds... not too big, and the one dog house I have is big enough for her, until Truman goes in to it.  He is around 100 pounds, and still growing.  Molly is 1 1/2 years old, is part lab, part terrier.  Truman is about 11 months old, is part lab, part boxer.  We think it is the terrier side of Molly that doesn't like to share space....or anything else

I have been looking at plans on the web, and have finally settled on a design.  The new dog house will be about 4' by 4', and can hold 2 dogs (just in case they decide to sleep together).  I have seen several online, but some of the designs I don't think would work....

Attached File  2.bmp   792.24KB   19 downloads (this is more like what I would want for myself!!!)

dog%20house.jpg (Chicken or dog house?)

celebrity-hacienda-dog-house.jpg (not in my budget...)

I think either one of these would do fine, but the 2-door model would probably suit Molly better!  We have figured out that she really is a  you-know-what.......Dog-House-Plans.jpg 2d2d.jpg

I have built many DH over the years for myself & most for others. With the nature of Molly I would go with the two door with a removable divider. The divider could simply be two vertical cleats on each side of the interior walls & a piece of plywood dropped loosely in between. The shed roof design is nice too. I always made the roof like a lid so it could be removed for cleaning. Keep us posted.

Be sure to put a bed in Molly's side. And a couch in Truman's.

Nope, no money spent yet.  When I buy something for myself, like tractor parts or another garden tractor (money well spent !!!)  she will ask me where did the money come from, and I tell her 'tractor money'......so today I tell her about the need for a new dog house, and she suggest I use some of my 'tractor money'.  Whoa, hold on there, lets try something out first before I start spending hard earned tractor funds....

1.  current 1-hole dog house.....Molly on top, Truman in front....  son Joe with Molly.

2.  recently updated 2-hole dog house

We will see how this works out first! :D

Ours really like to sit/sleep on top of their doghouses, so we made the roof flat but just 1/2" higher on one edge so the rain runs off and extended the roof about a foot over the door side to help keep it dry inside. That being said, the double door one in your post is neat, and being able to lift the roof off for cleaning is a great idea.

I had one Malamute/ Husky who would sleep on top of his during a snow storm. Another would dig under hers in the summer.
