This is my first post and I'm hoping that someone can help me. Does anyone know what is different about the C-120 Special besides it has a Tecumseh motor? How many were built? I've had a hard time finding any information about them and there is nothing in the Wheel Horse book I have. Thanks for any information anyone may have in advance.

Shawn,

Welcome to the "GREATEST SITE ON EARTH"

I'm not sure what you have. I have been dealing with Wheel Horse tractors for about 20yrs., and I've never herd of a C-120 Special.
Can you give me the model number off of your tractor? I have some sources that I can check and see if I can find out about this for you.

Brian

I have heard of the C-120 Special, but not seen one first hand. I know of 2 people who said they had such a beast with an HH120 TEC. Other than that, I have no knowledge of them. Could you please post a few pics of it?

I had picked the C-120 and a Cub up together and I am out of room with the other tractors I have and had to put them in my grandfathers barn. I was in a hurry and never even thought of getting some pictures or getting the serial number off of it. I will stop on my way home from work tomorrow to get you guys some pictures. I have a friend who has a C-120 gear drive and another friend who has a C-120 hydro. So it is pretty cool that we have all 3 now. Unfortunately I think the special is gonna get restored before my 1956 Bolens Ride-a-matic. We are gonna do a couple Wheel Horses at 1 time. It's easier to fill the booth that way. Thanks again,
Shawn

 SKunkle Welcome to the fold! It's nice to see another wheel Horse owner come aboard! I have never heard of the C-120 special, although I would have to say that it's probably the Tecumseh engine that makes it "special". I have a 1980 C-105, a 1986 312-8, and a 1996 314-8. I can't wait to see the :camera:. I hope that you enjoy the many forums and all the friendly, helpful folks that call this site home!

Well, there's the proof. I never really doubted they made them, being I've heard of them a few times, but good to see pics of one. You have a fairly rare tractor there!

There were 2 C-120 Special models in 1975. One was model 1-0357 and used a Tecumseh HH120-120180D and the 1-0375 used HH120-120180E.
It is a known fact that Wheel Horse would build a model to use up an excess of parts on hand and usually the name Special was applied to it. I wonder if the excess parts in this case was a super buy on the Tecumseh engines because the C-120 model ran through 1977.
Have seen 2 other older serials for the 1-0375 starting with 133428 and 133562 with no interruptions so far so there was possibly 248 of them built.

I kind of feel bad for what I gave the guy for the c-120 with a deck, and plow with the brackets, and a cub 72 with the wrong motor. The Tecumseh does have a death knock but I gave him the 300 dollars he asked for. :D

$300 was more than fair payment. Being a rarer tractor doesn't automatically make it worth more money wise. Just makes it worth more to the heart sometimes.
