I bought a 1450 Super Chief.(HYDRO  Guy I bought said when he ran it made a pop then would not go forward anymore.

Got it home it does want to go forward but it trys to grab but cant. Runs perfect in reverse. My guess is tooth or teeth are broken on forward gear.

I have the rear end seperated from the tractor. I was just wondering if anyone has split the transaxle on one of these. Can you just take set screws out of the (pumpkin) and seperate to change out the gear. I have another rear end that gears are still good in.Had bad axle splines on it .

I'm trying to figure out what you are calling the pumpkin. What year is this tractor? Got a pic so we know what it is?

Check the relief valves or Check valves on the pump.

It if moves in reverse fine then the transaxle is fine. The transaxle is just a 4 speed peerless with 1 gear instead of 4 gears. If the gears in the pumpkin or Differential were to be broken then it would not go forward or reverse.

It should have a Sundstrand 90-2029 pump on it.Which is a variation of the Sundstrand Model 15 pump. The check valves are just 2 springs and 2 small steel balls. The springs will collapse over time and if there is any water in the fliud.

Exceeded my download limit for today Downloading manuals for my Library but this should cover your pump.

If replacing the springs does not help then you may have to rebuild the charge pump.

There is a way to check the pressure in the charge pump but I've never done it myself. My Ford 120 (same tranny as yours)moved in reverse fine but was struggling to go forward.I replaced the check valve springs and it worked fine.

Pulled transaxle apart. Pulled out bad gear. Replaced with good one from another transaxle I had.  Thanks for the replies.
