1. I've got the side shaft engine from the mule. It has two studs that holds the muffler on. Flanged I guess. It's there a local source for a exhaust flange? I want to put a after market exhaust.

2. On a John Deere 318. Do the coils have a positive and a negative wire? Or a ground and a trigger wire?

No idea as to flange source.  The early 318's had points, so a std type coil.  Later models had the pointless ignition.....the negative went to the trigger module, + to the IGN terminal.

No standard coil on this one. I would assume the little box on the left side of the engine is the trigger. Thanks

The 'Trigger' is called an 'Igniter'..  It breaks the primary coil winding like a set of points do..

BTW--  I think 'Trigger' was the Duke's horse!!   :smilewink:

As far as the flange goes, Those engines are used on a variety of motorized vehicles like Gator's and such..  Look around and I'll bet you can come up with something..  Measure the flange inner and outer dimensions (height & width) and pipe size and shop around.  EB may have something you may be able to make work or you could have a flange/pipe made up @ a muffler shop..

'Trigger' was Roy Rogers' horse.

You could probably use an ATV or MC exhaust if you are looking to do a custom exhaust.

I forgot we were talking about a Kawasaki engine.  I was thinking Onan due to the JD318 mentioned.
