I have an 18 HP horizontal (422437-1209-01) that has a broken rod. I just got a 42A707-1237-01 vertical shaft 18.5 HP. I want to use parts to fix the horizontal for the Craftsman II Steve has repainted. the crank #'s are not the same in these:

Horizontal #: 690639

Vertical#:      690636

Does anyone know what the difference is between these two cranks? Neither engine is apart right now. Just looking for info. The rods and heads are the same part #, hoping the cranks interchange.

Kenny, would there be some difference in the vertical crank to account for thrust forces on the bearings. You may end up having to compare them side by side to identify the differences. The shaft end may be different as well.

I plan to compare them when they are out, Brian. Just hoping someone has been this way before!

I could not find the exact numbers that you posted for the crank numbers. The part numbers i got were

Crank for horizontal were 394430,394382,394394,394106.Depending on type number.Your number may supercede mine

Crank for vertical is 394028

I did find the dimensions for one of the horizontal and the vertical. 394106 and 394028

Hopes this helps

The #'s I gave were directly from the B&S web site, so are probably new #'s. Thanks for the PDF!

Edit: Found the difference!!!!! The vertical (394106) has a longer protrusion on the flywheel end and minute dimensional differences. Thanks!
