well fist of all i have a speedex s-19 with 8 hp briggs. it was leaking oil from behind the flywheel, so i figured the seal was bad. i changed the seal it was still leaking oil so i finally founnd a crack between the crank and directly behind the stater.
I got it all fixed up and now i am shearing flywheel keys and it jumps off time. why why why??? its driving me nuts.
is the flywheel not torqued right? is there oil in there? i dont know it seem the everytime i shut it off it does it. please give me some ideas??????

Tell me about the ignition. Is it magneto or solid state?  I'm wondering if the engine is backfiring while you are shutting it down.  Is the kill switch good?

Your flywheel is not torqued right.  Is this engine recoil start?  Is this the original engine?

Is there any clunking if you turn it over by hand with the plug out? Major wear or slop in the flywheel area?

Check that the key ways are tight. Check the fit of the flywheel to the crank taper. Wash the crank taper and flywheel hole. When putting it together besure that you have the proper concave washer on the crankshaft and the torque is right. If none of this works, I suspect that something is stopping the crank violently. What caused the crack in the block? Good Luck, Rick
