ALC, it's simply a belt driven stator, wired as a loop circuit, just Like the Kohler K series stators.  Seems like all the belt driven stator system on Deere's all get the wires hot at the regulator ends.  The Kubotas, as with the G4200 I had also use a stator like these, yet I've not seen them get their wires hot like this.  May be an issue with the type regulator John Deere uses, so maybe using one off a G4200 might work better????

Thanks for the explainion . Now I'm going to have to see how hot the connections are on the 318 that uses something close to that setup and the battery is now on its wayout so it should be trying hard to get the voltage up after starting . Pretty sure the regulator has a built in heat sink .
