I bought 3 Perkins/Shubauru 2 cylinder diesels last week.  Worked on one, and found it had stuck injection pump fuel pump shafts.  Took it completely apart & actually got it back together & in working order!  Fired it up tonight, and it would seem at this point that I have a good engine here.  No smoke, no knocks, or any odd noises at all.  Runs pretty smooth.  Oil pressure is getting to the head, but I will pull the oil sender & install a gauge to be sure pressure is up to snuff.  Has a radiator leak, and a hose clamp won't tighten, but no biggies.  Tomorrow night I'll bring out an electric fan for the radiator to allow me to run her longer.

My plan is to put this into a garden tractor, but not made my mind up on what tractor exactly.

Here's a short video for proof!

Man you must have more diesel engines than gas tractors to put them in.

Which tractor is this one for?

Not decided yet, but soon as I saw the listing on CL, I shot out & bought them.  The day after, I regretted buying, but I'm feeling MUCH better about the purchase now.

Well sometimes to get good deals on good stuff you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

Maybe you could convert someone else's tractor for them.

I was sick (not so much from the purchase, but my ticker acting up), but I took the injection pump off anyway, and soon found myself overwhelmed with how it went back together.  So I decided I'd better back off from it till I felt better.  Good decision, as with a clearer head, it all made sense to me.  I put it back together yesterday in between some farm chores, then tonight I put it back in the engine and she fired right up!

Daniel, I'm really glad to hear this.  I followed your thread from when you bought them, and it sure seemed you might have gotten the raw end of the deal.  Excellent news that this has turned around some now.

May I suggest something other than red or green?

This is the best news I've had in awhile. And it sounds really good and it winds like crazy. Now if you can get one more good engine out of the lot that would be something.  :D

Question for you Chris, then I gotta hit the hay.  On this engine, the crankcase breather on the top of the valve cover just has a tiny hole, and doesn't appear to be an actual vent.  You mentioned "non vented" diesels in another thread the other day.  I am not familiar with this, so just how do they vent the pressures?

Whatever I put it in, it'll almost certainly be RED!
