Has anyone had or used a mower with the rear steering transaxle? How do they hold up? Are they built very well?

I suppose that's not fair, the PO was pretty stingy on the lube under there. (Powdered rust works as a dry lubricant, right?) and I wasn't very experienced with it.
I ended up pulling the mechanism off and making the rear "fixed". Steered much easier to me.
Now, I know that there are a couple of members with bigger JD units that have and love the quad steer. I'm sure it is a better designed and more usable system.

The big JD 700 series with the 4wheel steer is a very nice tractor and it should be for what it costs. I don't think you could compare that to a light duty lawn mower with AWS. The maneuverability of the JD's is quite amazing and because it's power steering it's still effortless.

A friend of mine has a JD 445, I think that's right. He says he will never own anything that doesn't have it again.
