Used it this morning to find a 1655 Massey. Call the dude I ran one over and bought the tractor. Turned out to be I really nice 1655 with a parts unit no motor no drive shafts but it did have the rear pto. Came in the house this evening and Puter is shut down. Mmmm what's going on here. Hit the power button. Seems to start boot. Part way through it turns itself off again. It will check the DVD Drive. So l put in a os disc in and it seems to start reading and then shut down. Good thing is it doesn't seem to be a desk failure. I believe I have a power supply that is shutting down do to overload or what ever.
This sign is an antique that I've played with for a long time. Boots Vista ,Windows 7 ,Ubuntu.
Going to sleep on this one tonight and see what's what we're going to do about it tomorrow.

Dug out one of my laptops and back on line.

I have a recent backup in hand.  I do not think the hard drives failed yet at this point.  Will be able to get all current files off those.

Fingers crossed. wish me luck.

will be hauling feed again starting Tuesday for 2 weeks.  Will have to get by with the laptop for now.

I really think I will be replacing this old girl.  Saved it from a friend about 5 years ago and just do not need the grief anymore.

Need to find a new one less OS as I still have 2 licenses left for win 7.  No time to even think about building one right now.

Just a thought, but does it do any of the diagnostic beeps? Doesn't the bios do different beeps for different things in situations like this.

This might help.

AVB you are correct but you have to get far enough along in the boot process for that to happen.  I don't think that is happening in this case.

I have seen this quite offten. It is usually one of two things, either a power supply or the motherboard and my experience the mother board has won out.  Ducky make sure the motherboard is clean (no dust), might want to reset the processor.  I've got a few old power supplies I've taken out of old computers that had other problems.  Good Luck Ducky.

She called back and I ran over and picked it up the other night after we shut the chopper down.  Looks to be all I want except usb 3.0.

I am writing this as Ubuntu 12.04 is installing in the back round.  I will post the specs as soon as I get it up.  Will be back chopping hay again Monday for a week or so.

Hey Ducky are you aware that 12.04 has been updated to 12.04.01 (I think that is the number)  Just a lot of security updates and some app's.
