Well worth the drive, if they were a little closer I to would be all over them, but at a little over 1100 miles I think the Mrs might miss me :D

Three, as he's kinda wanting to keep one.  He would sell the 4th though if I wanted it too.  Heading out in half an hour or so.  Not my idea of resting tonight, but deals like this you don't hesitate on or they're gone!  Thing is, he's not ran these 3.  One may be missing the starter also.  I'll check in when I return to let ya know.  It'll be like 10 to 11pm EST getting back.

Those engines are from RigMaster Apu units. We have them on some of the trucks. The rest we have removed due the cost of keeping them running.  They aren't true Perkins units. They aren't nothing but trouble. We have a whole shipping container full of the worthless thing here. I wouldn't want one given to me.

Jeff, What issues do these things have to make you dislike them so much. Anything in particular?

yes, parts are hard to get, most engines fail before the first 5000hrs due to excessive oil use, broken piston rods, glow plugs fouling, alt and electrical problems. They shake bad and crack the mounting brackets, alt brackets, A/C brackets. Failures due to faulty oil pressure sensors, some times just the engine wouldn't stay running, other times the engine blows because the sensors don't shut them down. Fuel pump/system problems are another area. I'm under standing orders not to repair one if the parts cost more than a couple hundred dollars, due to amount of money spent in the past to keep them going. I don't remember the name of the place that actually makes the engine, but they are not real Perkin, just a licensed clone. The company that built the Rig Master unit went out of business a few yrs ago.  What you need is one of the Tri-Pac unit made by Themo-king. Hardly ever have problems with them. And if I do its usually something simple to repair or a busted wiring to a sensor. We have never lost one of there engines. If the seller has a bunch of the Rig master units for sale, there is probably a reason, and im betting its the same ones we have issues with. A good running Apu wouldn't be off the truck, with fuel prices at $4 a gallon. I got one of the boat anchors lying out in front of my garage, its free for anyone who wants it. I only got it to see how the insides was built and just never did anything with it.
