I need to know the length and whether the throttle cables are positive or negative action on my Allis 416 shuttle and my Allis built Homelite T-16, both need replaced, are they the same? Thanks

Not sure what is negative vs. positive action but on the 400 series the cable must be pulled into the sheath to increase throttle. The Allis/Homelite T16 works in the same way.

Don't know length so you will just have to get a generic cable and cut to length.

Tsc and other places sell a replacement kit. I just bought one. You take the whole cable and sheath off the old throttle handle then replace with the new one. It's best to cut the length before you install the new cable on the old handle.

The Homelite is the one I'm worried about, its a Briggs engine and the PO used a aftermarket cable, not the right one. I believe the Allis 416 and the Homelite cables are the same, just not sure.

If I am not mistaken the Homelite cable is routed along the left side of the tractor high and loops down over the carb to the governor linkage in front of the carb. The sheath is anchored to a clip on the elbow of the intake manifold.

I buy cable housing & inner wire off bulk spools at my local small engine shop.  He keeps a few sizes.  Seems to be a better grade than the kits I've seen.

Be sure you check the cable to make sure it is a good fit going through the hole in the throttle linkage.

That's the part I was wondering about and your description helps, Thanks

The cable that's on the Homelite now is wrong, it should bolt to the  dash on the right side of the slot, when he bought the wrong cable he just screwed two extra holes on the left, nice, huh. If he would have turned upside down and used the proper holes the action would have worked backwards, I would have preferred that. I hear ya about buying cable. I do the same with braided wire and roller chain
