Ive got a Kawasaki 14hp engine from a mule. I can get this tractor cheap less weights and deck. All the hydraulic lines and controls will also be gone. I wonder how the 14hp will do. Depending on the condition off the tractor I've also thought about pulling the hydraulics and 18hp engine from the tractor I'm building and putting it on this one.

Are you thinking of putting the Kaw on the Cub?

How wide is the engine? Those cubs look like poo without side tins.

thats my other option. Take all the metal off this and put it on my 3000. Which rear end is better? 1650 or the 3000 series

What is all that stuff on the left side of the Kaw? Some of these modern engines have oversize mufflers and such built in. Can anything be remodeled on it?

That is the engine's cylinder section.  They sit at an angle.

hmm, not sure on that. All I do know is that I liked driving that 3000 3x as much as driving the 682!! the power steering and foot control hydro can't be beat.

I think you may want to think long and hard about this. With so many factors involved its good to get lots of advice, sleep on it and mull it over in your mind, I've had ideas like this and in a day, week, or month the whole project has changed and I say "whew", I could have flogged the dog if I would have done that. Not saying thats the case here, but a judicious amount of thought is worth it's weight in old GTs, I know what ya mean about the ride, but I wouldnt trade a 3000 for my Massey MF14 or Bolens H16 for nuthin, no my wife, thats a differnet story, but I'm old school muffler, engine, and chassis.

Both of those are my favorite options and both easily convert over to this 1650. I think it may be better to keep the 1650 and just pull the engine from the 3186.

I'd keep the 3186 intact.  It is usable now, and you don't even know if the driveline in the 1650 is good or not.  Much easier putting a different engine in the 1650 at least until you find out if it's any good.

I'd like to see you completely finish the 3186.

It's going to be hard to get that angle cylinder engine to fit where the Kohler was. It's wider and the extra width is all on one side of the crank. I've been there on a JD314 trying to sub for a K321.

I've also got a 12hp kohler. To many options. I may put whatever engine in and see how she runs and go from there
