I got a chance to take some things apart for a closer look today. The fuel filter was clear by looks, but I couldn't hardly blow through it. So I grabbed one that I could blow through and put it on. One hour later, no coughs, no choke, running good. Odd little filter I've not seen before. But I think it's fixed. Thanks to all for their help and support!

Pressure versus suction filter? I think it was Alc that mentioned that recently.

I haven't a clue about this filter. I just grabbed one from the tractor we took the 15 HP off and used it!

Matters not, I suppose... As long as the tractor runs.

You may have to mow with it 2-3 times to verify the solution. :poke:

I had a similar issue on a vehicle. Drove us mad.

The filter had skinned back a flap on the inside of the fuel line.  It was like a reversed flap valve, at low speeds it ran perfect. Accelerate and the flap sealed the line and the carb was starved for fuel.

Fixed it with a pocket knife, shortened the fuel line, and reconnected. Carefully.

Still wanted to shoot it.

Thanks for dropping in with that, blacksmith1! You never know what you'll find on one of these machines!
