I got tired of throwing money at the newer throw away lawn mowers, so I started searching for a GT to fiddle with. I was looking for a Cub, but when I ran across this, I couldn't pass it up. I cleaned the carb, it looked like the PO had been running motor oil through it, it was so gummed. I cleaned and re-set the points, got a new plug, filter and fuel. Within a couple cranks, she fired right up. I tuned the carb and she runs like a top. The hydraulics work, head lights, generator and the amp gauge. The front tires were shot, so I put a new set on and will be looking for rears as these are hard as a rock. For now, I'm going to just use it, clean it up and paint in the process. I've only had it for a few days, but I sure like it a lot. This will be great for mowing the terraces and small areas I can't get to with my '48 Farmall H. I can barely read the serial number, but I think it's a '78.

Great site, I'm glad I found it!

Welcome to GTtalk, Glad to have another TEXAN here with us. I have the same tractor, but labeled as a Whites Hardware Store Brand.  Great tractor for anything.

Here's the thread about mine,

Does yours have the little tool box between the rear fenders? I'm missing mine.

Others may chime in on this, but it looks older than 78. Looks like 73 to me. Check the last number on the engine.

I saw your thread while I was searching around, cool tractor! Yes, mine has the tool tray. I have the top link bracket and the hitch pins for the lower links, but that's all I have for the thre point.

I'll see if I can read the number on the engine tomorrow. The first three on the tractor looks like 148, but it's REAL hard to read.

I have a 10 HP gear shift that I use every week to mow, and in the spring and fall, I plow 2 gardens with a brinly 12" plow. I love it and you will love yours even better. I have gone through mine fairly extensively and can answer questions if you have any along the way.

Yes, I'd say it's a 73 just like mine.

Get me a photo of the back of the tractor so I can see what you need. I'll pm you after I see the photo.

Your dash doesn't seem to be broken either..

You're right, the dash is in good shape. Overall, the whole thing is in pretty good condition. I'll snap a pic of the rear tomorrow morning and post it up.
