Does the tiller work Ok, without the pan underneath?
I'd think that the long belt would flop around a bit, without the
pan/guides.
I've always wanted one of those tillers, but every time I see one listed, they
are missing the pan.

It looks like it could use some grip on the foot boards though, have you checked out grip tape for skate boards, its large enough to cover in one piece.
