I'm seeing about aquiring a "barn find" of a Jacobsen Chief 1000. The tractor has everything except the parking brake knob and shifter knob. The mower deck is included. The paint is about 98% there and it ran when it was parked in 1990. All the books are still under the seat in a Jacobsen ziploc bag that they would be in when you get them from the dealership in 1967. He wants $200 is this a good buy?

I would say so. Check the engine to make sure it turns over, make sure the tires aren't checked to bad. Should make you a good tractor. Good luck and post some pictures. Roger.

I'd say it's pretty good.  If the deck is cast aluminum, make sure it isn't cracked.  Good luck and post lots of photographs.

Even with issues $200 for the tractor is a good deal. Unless the engine was locked up I would buy it for the asking price.

I bought the same thing for 200 bucks and all I got was a snow blade and chains.  Runs but not real pretty.     :ah_shoot:

I thought I did ok.  But I would sell it for what I paid if anyone wanted it.

I agree, George.  If worst comes to worst, the parts are worth that.

The engine is free but ran when parked 23 years ago the tires are holding air. I believe the deck is a 36 inch.

The mower deck is a 42" aluminum deck.
