going over a jd 185 h, 17 hp kawasaki i just got , no spark, changed the coil ,cleaned the magnet, jumped the oil low level ,and seat switch, still no spark, what am i missing? having a seniors moment, going to go have a nap and start again after dinner, ps the coil i am using came out of a fc400v 17hp my motor is a fc540v but they look the same, are they? thanks for the input

I'm not familiar that familiar with the Kawasaki engines (although I have one in the shop). You haven't mentioned about checking for a ground. I would disconnect the battery, then disconnect the engine to the tractor wiring and take my ohm meter and check to see is one or the other is reading out to ground.  Then if one does read out to ground get a wiring diagram and see where the possibilities are.

 

Taking a nap when your stumped usually works for me too!

Also check the key in the flywheel. I had similar issues on a John Deere 265 with the FC 540V. I fought with that thing for a long time. Pulled the flywheel one night and found that it had sheared the key. Replaced that and it ran like champ.

Check the plug and boot connection.

also, make sure the plug is good.

Sometimes a plug will work fine grounded out on the engine, but when installed, under pressure, they fail.

found it!!!!! ignition mod was acting up working then not, its working great now
