can you build them up like the 10,12,and the 16 hp engines

umm basically no but if its all money permits you can tune it up some dont rev it to high the dont have bearing on the crank

8 hp Kohler K181 has full roller bearings on the crank..

A well done 8hp Kohler can run with in a 10hp class and be competitive,

You can't shave the stock head(The valves will hit), but you can make a custom head. Other than that go for it, cam, port, whatever!
