That is an Ariens tractor.  Looks pretty rough.   $300 seems very high for the condition and the treatment it has likely had.

Pretty high unless you badly needed the hydrostat out from under it to get a better tractor going.

Hydrostats I have. What I am running out of is good Kohlers. Is that rear lift hydraulic? Is it also used to raise and lower the deck? So the valve and piston has to be worth something. I may be able to get this for a $100.

It's worth $100 easy just for parts.  It appears the rear lift is linked to the mid mount lift.

What you really need are the rear wheels and you can get those for less.

The striping on the hood has me thinking of the GT 18 of the 931 series. The 3 point arms mount right behind the axle with a single hydraulic cylinder for rear, mid and front lift. Flip a latch and use the rear lift. Flip it back and the front and mid work together with the front having down pressure and the middle has a float
