Seems like every little job has its hitches.
Took the old one off and went to town to get some antifreeze.
Came home and was sitting down to lunch when Dad came. By the time I had eaten he had the pump on. He said we have a problem
It seems someone had changed the fan and did not have the right one?
Smaller bolt pattern so they turned the fan till it was centered between the original bolt holes and drilled and tapped new holes that fit the fan,
Not wanting to be down while I found another fan, I did the same.
Made a new gasket out of a cereal box( I broke the one that came wit the pump taking it back off) and put it back together. I ran it about an hour running the landscape rake and everything is fine.

Sounds like you guys sorted out that little hitch just fine. It is frustrating when a simple job turns sour on you like that.

I really have no idea? I suspect another Ford or maybe a small car? whoever did it had a lathe because they had bored the aluminum fan spacer to fit over the locating flange on the pump, Since it was located well and could not allow the fan to get out of balance, I thought it was safe to drill and tap the pump flange as they had done.

There are still a couple acres that I was trying to finish when the pump went out.
I wanted to be sure there were no air bubbles in the cooling system before I put it under a heavy load.
I have run it an hour without a hickup so probably tomorrow afternoon I will finish that up.
