what is the differences between the two? are the parts interchangeable?

They should be pretty much the same. Sometimes the PTO shaft of the engine is different from tractor to tractor. Check our manuals section for information. Good Luck, Rick

If you can get a hold of the spec. no off of both engines you should be able to go to the Kohler site and look up parts for both engines. That should tell you if there are any major differences. It seems to me that there is a lookup table somewhere on line that lists compatible type numbers.

The Wheel horse K482s that was on the D-180 might have been Hydraulically driven like the CASE tractors, in which case it would have a VERY short output shaft connected to a lovejoy connector.
