Just bought this on ebay for 60 bucks....hoping I did right.  now assuming I did right, how or what do I need to hook this up?  Not much in the way of linkage is left on my tractor other than the actuall lever with pushbutton.

Sweet Bolens you got. I am soooo jealous, Who ever heard of a 20$ Bolens? Do you have hydraulics and rear lift on this?

This will surely become one of your favorite GT. Bolens GTs are a ''above standard'' tractors MHO.

Wish you the best with this project, please keep us posted on progress and keed addding pics.

Ok I bought what looks to be a 18418 mower deck for 60 bucks. I have no idea what the belt length is and ive been hunting for days for the spec belt length. The 18418 manual looks exactly like my deck.  How long a belt do I need.  Havnt been able to find that in the manuals.  Pictures coming.   Bought the deck off ebay and when I got there, the seller showed me the tractor that it was on and I was able to grab most of the deck suspension linkage.  Not sure if Im missing more parts.  2 of the spindles need bearings so I will replace them.  Messed up one spindle getting bearings out so have more spindles coming from ebay purchase.

You can download the mower parts manual here:

http://gardentractor...-18418-38inpdf/

It shows 2 different part numbers on the belt.  171 4799 for the -01 and -02, and 172 4148 for the -03,04, and 05.

The 1742 148 is a 4L 75" belt.  The earlier one is probably the same.

I like that air cleaner setup!  The round ones on the late model G10s and the G11 have to be in 'just' the right place or they rub on the hood.  That triangular one looks like it eliminates that issue.

Well, Let me  tell you that on my 1886 I got the belt size from the manual and it was too short. To find the right lenght I used a rope. I threaded it trough the pulleys and marked the spot where the end of the rope meets. I then pulled the rope out and mesured it to get the right belt leght for my mower. This has to be done with belt binder at minimum tension. Dont use too big a rope. 1/4 dia should be good.

Just went and bought the belts that the tractor takes.  1/2 by 43 and 35(on a bolens site belt manual).  Figuring that the drive lever turns off and on the pto, I thought I would try to get that working.  Finally freed up the lever enough to move it but the pto tensioner pully doesnt move unless I tap it back and forth with a piece of wood.  Im not sure how this all works yet so Im not sure how to get the lever to move the idler in and out of the belt by itself.  Is the ldler pulley shaft supposed to be stiff to move back and forth?  I did spray white lithium grease on all the moving parts of the shaft that I could find.  Im almost wondering if theres something broke or maybe a spring missing.  I hate reading the manuals as its kinda hard to picture an exploded view as to where all the parts go.

Just used old belt and purchased a 112 inch belt as thats what the old belt measured with a tape measure.  Measured it several times.

I just didnt trust the old belt length, as this deck looked like it has some odd parts to it.  Yeah, I found 75 inches to be what was listed for my deck but no way would that fit.

Initially, I couldnt even move the drive lever at all, so I took the cover off and sprayed lube in there also.  Then I took the idler and moved it back and forth which broke it loose but its not totally free moving.
