At Show picked up couple K181's. One is a starter/gen and one is pull start. Thinking the Start/gen may be from wheelhorse, and the pull one from a Troy-built tiller maybe?

The start/gen one:

K181S    S is electric start?

Spec  301080

Serial  A18115     Not sure why the A?

Pull start:

K181T     T is pull start?

Spec 307074

Serial 8332977    There is a serial tag on front of cover, probly frm the unit it powered of 41920.  Troybuilt put those there?

SO, what have I got?

The starter/generator...are you sure the serial number 301080 isn't 30108D.

The 30108D is on a1966 856 4 speed, and 876 automatic, and 1968 Commando 8, 4 speed.

KC9 that was 30108 C when I went out and looked again with the tin Off the engine.  That mean anything? I took couple of pix. Lots of stuff missing or modified on both engines. The pull start one is the best internal shape with compression and such.

TroyBilt didn't use a K181, they used a K161.

they actually used BOTH depending on year of tiller...  later they used the M8 which is the same engine as a 181 only with elect ignition instead of points
