I am looking at a 982 for sale and the guy says its yellow and white. All I've seen are red. Are they as rare as the red ones. The motor is bad and it has 3 pt hitch no PTO. Anybody knows what its worth. He said to come make an offer.

They never made a yellow and white 982. Cub Cadet started to make yellow and white ones in 1985, when IH Cub Cadet was bought out by CCC. The last Cub Cadet IH made was a 782, and was not yellow, or white. I say its a scam or he has the number wrong, or the tractor wrong. Ian.

I am also thinking somebody might have painted it. Do you know if he is the original owner? If not, I would say that is the most likely explanation.

They DID make a yellow and white 982.  I have one.  When IH sold the line to MTD, Cub Cadet Corp. was set up to sell the tractors.  The old IH dealers got the 82 series painted red and the new CCC dealers got them painted yellow and white.  They were sold as a dual line of tractors from 1982-1985.  The IH dealers could get them painted both ways but the CCC dealers could only get them painted yellow/white.  As for a price with a bad engine I wouldnt pay more than $200-350 depending on the condition of the tractor. I.e. is all the tinwork there, paint decent, tires decent, ect.  Heres a picture of mine.  982.jpg   If its in this kind of shape I would go $200.  If its better up to the $350.   Hope this helps.      Stewart

The yellow and white 982's are rarer, than the red ones.  You don't see many yellow and white ones.

Hi All,
I also have a Yellow and white 982, mine being a true 986 in the CCc coding. The 986 would be 982 model with the three point and the rear PTO. 984 would be three point only. Will possibly be selling mine as well.
Take care, Mike

Ditto what the other guys said. They did make a yellow 982. I would think it would worth around $200-$400 depending on condition. Good luck!!!!

Hi Guys

Went and look at it today. It was a 982 in average looking condition. The motor was lockup, no deck. I offer $400 he wanted $1000. So I came back with a empty trailer. Thanks for the help.

I have had a few of them here also. the pto and 3 point will bring $1000. and you would still have the rest of the trctor left.

Stewart , I think your selling the 982's value a bit short .

I'll take all the 982's you can find for the $200 to $350 price if they look like the one pictured , blown engine or not, and I already own three red ones .

Its hard to put a value on one without a picture but $400 for a complete tractor with 3 point that needs a little work isn't out of line , but I do think the $1000  price is way out of line for a non runner .
