I think so too but I would rather have the MF7 next to it.

What do you mean "is it worth...?"  This thread should say "I brought home a Cub!"

Ben W.

Got me!!!!!

The guy actually advertised it for $275.  Another guy was supposed to come see it but was an hour late... I was still at work, so I had the wife get the money and go buy it, sight unseen. The other guy--who happened to be the guy I bought the JD317 with a loader from, showed up about 5 minutes after my wife got there. Fortunately for me, he didn't have all the cash on hand and the owner sold it to us.  I had previously told the wife to give him $300 for it as I knew even that wasn't close to it's value and my conscience was bothering me a bit.

But apparently the PO didn't get hosed... he had bought it for $250 at an auction, used it for two weeks and decided it was too big for his yard...

Anyway, I mowed my postage-stamp sized yard with it last night... that power steering is sure sweet!!  I gotta find the lift arms and center link for the 3PH, the rest is already there.

The meter only shows 440 hours, but it doesn't work so I'm not sure how many hours are on it.  The engine sounds strong, though.

The hydrostatic whines a bit... don't know if that's normal for this machine or not.

The plastic hood and sides have been repaired, and are faded... can I just paint them?

Anyway, now I need to unload the 2 JD 317s.

Oh, BTW, the MF7 is mine as well... the engine turns over, but "catches" every second revolution for a second... and I couldn't ever get it to start.... I'll either but a HF engine in it, or part it out. If anyone's interested, send me a PM.

Regards,

Smitty

I'd look for an older, metal hood off a pre 1981 I-H Cub Cadet.  Even if you repair the plastic hood it will get more brittle as time goes by and in a few more years it'll crumble.  Fix it once and never have to work on it again.

What models with metal hoods will fit this one?  I've heard the 682 is a similar tractor, is that right? (I've noticed hoods for it for sale on eBay).

Will the metal side panels from the pre-'81 tractors fit as well???

Thanks,

Smitty

I don't know if any of the older metal hoods would be a direct bolt on but to me at least it'd be worth the extra effort to install one.

US, great looking Cub. Great story (and wife)

On the teccy in the 7, pop the head, and see which valve is partly stuck open. If its what I'm thinking it is, it might be a half hour fix... At least get it running enough to move itself. Just watch oil levels, they do NOT like low oil.
