Some of you friends and/or fugitives from MTF and others who are members of some of the mechanical/welding sites surely remember "KoO" (King of Obsolete) aka "Joey Barnes" and the great stories of life in "The Great White North", Cat trains and other cold steel adventures around Lynn Lake, Manitoba and lots of other places in the world. I was quite surprised to see a promo of his appearance on "Ice Road Truckers" coming up this Sunday, July 14 on the History Channel.

Anyone who loves machinery, cold weather, great story telling ability and just plain adventure should check out his website also...

http://www.kingofobsolete.ca/

...for some enjoyable reading. Whatever or however you think of the show IRT's itself, I know you'll enjoy Joey's segment. He's a great guy and the real deal!

(Perhaps someone who's fingers wouldn't fall off by posting on MTF could give them a heads up...? "Thansk"! :D

Wow, I gotta see that segment!  Joey & I were both good internet friends with GTT member "JoeJ" who passed away a couple years ago.  Before Joe's health got bad, he got a signed copy of "North" magazine from Joey, also signed by his girlfriend "Southern Belle" and his daughter.   JoeJ put it on ebay, hoping to make money for doctor bills.  JoeJ signed it also, then Joey himself bought it back, for somewhere around $900!   Sure helped JoeJ out!  Then because Joey saw I had been bidding (back then you could see bidder names), Joey sent it, along with a copy of his hardback book!  That was over 5 1/2 years ago, and I figured to just hang onto it.

HH, when you posted this, all I had to do was turn my computer chair around & take this large envelope off my shelf & snap some pics!  This is way cool!!!!!!!!  Laid Sharpie over to cover Joey's address.

The last pic shows my buddy's sig, "JoeJ"----- Joe Johnson.  I miss the dude!DSC00051.JPG DSC00052.JPG DSC00053.JPG DSC00054.JPG DSC00055.JPG

I just thought about him the other day. I always wondered if he was the real thing. Thanks!

Interesting reading the posts on that forum.  Especially the ones knocking the current perversion of "reality TV shows".  When you keep it real you keep real people interested and coming back.  Our real lives might not be so interesting to TV production types though...

BTW Joey, a little black shoe polish, or some coal dust rubbed on that bald spot and it won't show as much!  :smilewink:
