I have a sabre 1642 lawn tractor which I have used for snow removal as well as lawn care on a hilly yard. I have owned this tractor for close to 15 yrs. I am now having issues going up hills. When the transmission is warm, the tractor can barely move up the hill. Obviously, this is a transmission issue. Can the transmissions on these tractors be rebuilt? I need to get a few more years out of this machine, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Tuff Torq K51 was not designed to be serviceable.  Many have taken the hydro out of their tractors, then pry off the fill cap & turned it upside down to drain all the old black oil out of them, then refilled with 15w-50 synthetic motor oil with great results.

Welcome to GTTalk. If the oil change doesn't work it may be time for a new transmission or a used one. You can also adapt the more powerful Garden Tractor type transaxles like the K71 to some tractors.
