"38 inch self powered with 8 hp motor, 3 pt hitch, new carb new drive belt, has top adjustable link, heavy duty chain drive for tiller tines, was told when purchased either a John Deere or Case tiller.
$675 cash and as usual cash does carry some clout in purchases"

More pictures in the ad.

First off, the asking price is a joke. Tines are worn out, it has a transplanted Tecumseh snowblower engine with NO AIR FILTER. On a tiller. Hello?

Curious as to what it is, though. Did Deere make self-powered tillers, or is this something that has been painted Deere yellow to try and increase the value? Pretty sure Case never made a self-powered tiller and it doesn't look like a Case unit, anyway.

There is a tag on it, too bad they didn't take a better picture of it. Of course, that might spoil the suggestion that it is a Deere.

I'm thinking Simplicity, but if so the hitch may have been modified?

Curious.

It doesn't look like either of my Simplicity Tiller Attachments. It seems too narrow for a 3 ph. Good Luck, Rick

I don't think JD ever made a tiller like that. It may have been purchased as a after market attachment at a JD or Case dealer and that's where the association came from!

The curvature of the round back reminds me of a JD 31 or 33. The chain drive, as in sprocket and covers look like my Ariens rearmount. It looks to me like some one added an engine to the back and built the 3pt. Professionally put together, but not brand name.

I read somewhere that Brinly made the tillers for JD, Cub Cadet and Ariens.

I was wondering if it was Brinly, as I knew it wasn't A Deere tiller. I knew you had been watching for one now for a while Kenny.

Thanks for the ID.

I assume it was originally self-powered, just not with a snowblower engine?  :D
