I picked this up the other day.
It's a 1970 Sears and Roebuck Custom 10XL. (My favorite color Custom )
Model Number: 917.25470
Serial Number: 1383
It never had a 3-pt on it until the day I got it, and looks as if it had only ever had a plow on it once.
Engine runs well, once it's warmed up. Until then, it needs to run with the choke partially out.
It came with the deck, 3-pt and plow.
My pap and I found an old trailer light and wired it up to the rear (tractor only had the bracket and the hot-wire coming out).
This machine has a funky deck-lift where forward is lift and back is lower... Really different. It was really gummed up and hardly moved so we took it apart, cleaned it up, put a grease fitting in it and a new pin. Works mint.
I then tore apart the 3-pt top link, cleaned up the threads and added a grease fitting to each side. Also now works mint.
The splined collar that connects the shaft to the 90 degree gearbox is stripped out, so we have one on order. We are hoping it fixes the slip, otherwise I'm in the market for a new gearbox.
I plan to get this machine running well and using it for mowing.
I forgot how nice it is to work with my grandfather... My dad never has time for it and we tend to butt heads. Pap is a different story. He and my gram live in Florida 10 months out of the year.
I worked on getting the 3-pt/HitchingPost almost exactly how I want it, designed my striper, and a few other things.
I am currently running some SeaFoam through it to see if I can clean up the carb any.
I am still awaiting the part for the mower deck. I decided I am going to make my own gauge wheels for the deck. More updates to follow
Well, off to picks!
