I picked this up the other day.

It's a 1970 Sears and Roebuck Custom 10XL. (My favorite color Custom fing32.gif)

Model Number: 917.25470
Serial Number: 1383

It never had a 3-pt on it until the day I got it, and looks as if it had only ever had a plow on it once.

Engine runs well, once it's warmed up. Until then, it needs to run with the choke partially out.

It came with the deck, 3-pt and plow.

My pap and I found an old trailer light and wired it up to the rear (tractor only had the bracket and the hot-wire coming out).

This machine has a funky deck-lift where forward is lift and back is lower... Really different. It was really gummed up and hardly moved so we took it apart, cleaned it up, put a grease fitting in it and a new pin. Works mint. fing32.gif

I then tore apart the 3-pt top link, cleaned up the threads and added a grease fitting to each side. Also now works mint.

The splined collar that connects the shaft to the 90 degree gearbox is stripped out, so we have one on order. We are hoping it fixes the slip, otherwise I'm in the market for a new gearbox. praying.gif

I plan to get this machine running well and using it for mowing.

I forgot how nice it is to work with my grandfather... My dad never has time for it and we tend to butt heads. Pap is a different story. He and my gram live in Florida 10 months out of the year. smiley-confused013.gif

I worked on getting the 3-pt/HitchingPost almost exactly how I want it, designed my striper, and a few other things.

I am currently running some SeaFoam through it to see if I can clean up the carb any.

I am still awaiting the part for the mower deck. I decided I am going to make my own gauge wheels for the deck. More updates to follow

Well, off to picks! thThumbsUp.gif

Fine looking machine you have there.

Good to hear, you're having a good time working with your Pap.

Paps almost always have a wealth of knowledge. Your lucky, that

you have the opportunity to absorb it.

Nice looking Custom 10xl Dane.

I'm going to be picking up an Early 1968 Custom 10xl here in a couple days.It has the earlier custom 7 grill with headlights and 3 bolt hubs.It has a deck on it but I haven't checked it out yet.It may have a stripped gear to.If it does I'm most likely going to get rid of the deck.

I'll PM you if I decide to get rid of the deck. You don't live very far away from me.

Yank that Diesel off of the JD and stick it in the Custom lol.

Nice tractor. Looks like you are ready for a plow day now.

I actually have a secret project going on for next PA Plow Day... This one is for mowing only, unless I really feel spunky.

I enjoy working with Pap.  He always teaches me something new.

Holy-Moly!  Another Bedford-ite!  Nice to see someone local on here!  Let me know about the deck... I can always use some parts...  And the 10XLs used the early style grill for a few years.  Check on here: http://vintagesearsg...om/Customs.html

I had the 8hp version . It was a fun tractor. I still have all the manuals if you need them.
I might even have the original taillight I will give you if you want.

Small tractor with good power,hi/lo range and a whole bunch of attachments that was available? And some really cool rounded rear fenders.

They're simple design and attachment availabliity is what I like.

Congrats on the Custom Dane! It looks to be in great shape too! These tractors are starting to really grow on me, I have used Dad's 2x's to mow his yard already and it does a great job and is fun to drive.

Good luck with her and thanks for all the pictures

Hey Dane, darned nice rig. I think you will get to liking that tractor... You will need lots of weight tho.

Love the color :D

I have the manual for the 10xl without the S&G unit if you cant find them and a scan would help. Also the 3 pt, plow and maybe the deck.

Be happy to do it if any of them aren't available for dl already.

Why will I need lots of weights?  I will just be using it for mowing duty for now... If I want to plow I don't think it'll need too many...
