Many of us have heard the question, "Who is John Galt". If you have not heard of John Galt I recommend the book (or movie), "Atlas Shrugged".

Our question is, who was Brooks Stevens?

Brooks Stevens drew up prototypes for Bolens.

Brooks Stevens was a very gifted designer. He worked for Studebaker and American Motors, i beleive. Not sure, but he may have had a hand in either the letter series Farmalls or the Letter Series Allis (WD, etc.)

Brooks Stevens was an Industrial Designer and Graphics Artist. Stevens was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1911. Stevens designed everything from home furniture to kitchen appliances to the Miller Brewing Logo to the Studebaker GT Hawk. He is credited with the development of the idea of "Planned Obsolesce".

Stevens designed the Oscar Meyer "Wiener Mobile", engines for Briggs and Stratton and passenger rail cars and outboard motors, most famously the Evinrude "Lark" for OMC and motorcycles for Harley Davidson.

Where does this fit into Bolens you ask?

In 1960 FMC hired Brooks Stevens as the "External Designer" for the "Century Series" of tractors to be introduced in the 1962 model year beginning with the 600. Stevens designs lead the way from the "Ride-A-Matic" designs that had been the mainstay of Bolens since the 1940's and carried Bolens bold new designs through the 1965 model year.

Brooks Stevens died in 1995 at the age of 84.

You have most of what I know. Were did you find your info?

 

Most off the tractors from the ek gk lk to the tube frame were his designs.

While doing research last year I stumbled across the information that named Brooks Stevens as the "External Designer" for FMC, having been hired to help develop the tube frame series. Wikipedia has a good article and several others available via Google and Bing search. It does take some time and digging.
