Dear old AT&T is at it again! Got a letter a few days ago that my cell phone will not work after Feb. 28, 2011 if I don't update. I stopped by an AT&T store yesterday to see about it, looks like they want my bill to increase from $25 to at least $39+. So I'm looking for options!

Rural Midwest location.
I only make & receive calls (no texting).
Don't use the camera feature.
Some times don't use it for weeks at a time, but carry it ever day.
I want something simple to use that I don't have to change my number.

I'm thinking maybe a "Jitterbug", anybody have experience with one, good or bad?

Any other possibilities? ~~ grnspot110

My parents have had a TracPhon for years. They use it rarely, only buy minutes as they need, it suits them fine. They have never texted, used a cell phone as a camera, etc... sound like what you use yours for.

You can even have your old cell # transfered to the new phone (takes an extra day) Use the words "Number Portability" when asking about this.

grnspot,

If I were you and don't need a cell phone all the time other then when needed I would go with a pay as you go phone. That way you only have to pay for minutes as you need them.

I use Tracfone, pay as ya go. Love it & great reception wherever I go. No roaming charge. 1 minute is one minute no matter where you are.

I use pay as you go......Rogers here have a $100 card you can buy and the minutes last for a year....If you buy a new card the next year before yours runs out, the extra time transfers.......Right now, I have $145 in the bank..........We have just started using text, as its cheaper than calling, plus our kids never answer their damn phone anyways.....lol

One daughter just gave me her old iPhone, sim card came out of mine and into hers and away I go........

I use Verision and canceled all my land lines.
House was on att for 30 some year's and shop was on att for 20 year's.
Those thief's charged me $176.00 to cancel the shop and $75.00 to cancel the house.
What Peeps me off the most is all I did was call in and they did it all at the office.

I have used tracphones in the past and had good luck with them. I used mine mainly in case of emergency. Now we have Verison and I am not impressed. The cost and features are ok but while in my house the signal is so poor I may or may not be able to make or get a call. True our house is sitting in a valley but I ticks me off that the service isn't reliable enough for us that we can drop our regular land line service and we end up keeping 2 phone services.

Our house has steel siding so cell service inside is unpredictable at best!

Still haven't decided what to do yet. I'll talk to my nephew Thanksgiving weekend, he works for Sprint & has high electronic skills. ~~ grnspot110

I have a Net10 from Wally World and it has excellent coverage. I also seldom use it. I wouldn't even own one ~but~ it is a requirement for my job. It was $30 for two months with way more minutes than I would ever use but they just raised thier price as well. Now its $20/month. I guess they are going to get thier money one way or another. I wish someone had one for $20 for 200 minutes and no limit on "days of service" . I could get by a year on 200 minutes. Net10 is still the cheapest I've found.
