The Hi/Lo range selector will rust up if sitting for many years.

If that is the case spray some kroil and try and work it back and forth. If all else fails just take it apart and clean the parts with a wire wheel and grease them up before re-assembly.

Was just looking at the hi/lo selector, I know I'm missing a belt but the selector isn't working right, I can pull it back and forward but moving it left to right seems to easy.  not sure if something is broken off or?

Moving the idler left to right should not be hard.

Only thing I can see as being a problem is the spring tension.

Also,

The large spring should be hooked up to a cotter pin at both connecting points

Thank you Bolens 1000!  Just needed some WD40 and a lot of pulling back and forward and moving left and right, what happened was that when I pulled it to the right the rod with the pulley would just stay in place but now it's working again!  Will pick up two new belts at the local Tractor supply here.
